Jamestown Chairman Clinton Smullyan today welcomed Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski to the Jamestown Foundation Board of Directors

Washington, DC – Jamestown Chairman Clinton Smullyan today welcomed Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski to the Jamestown Foundation Board of Directors. From 1977 to 1981, Brzezinski served as National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter.

“Dr. Brzezinski’s leadership in the U.S. national security establishment and stature as a world-renown scholar make him an invaluable addition to the Jamestown Board,” Smullyan said. “We are extremely fortunate to have the benefit of his vast policy experience and compelling strategic insight.”

Dr. Brzezinski is Professor of American Foreign Policy at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and serves as a Counselor and Trustee at the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS). He earned his Doctorate from Harvard University in 1953, and directed the Trilateral Commission in New York from 1973 to 1976. In 1981 Brzezinski received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role in normalizing U.S.-China relations.

“I am deeply honored to have Dr. Brzezinski as a member of the Board,” said Jamestown Foundation President Glen Howard. “His commitment to balancing power with principle in international affairs will help guide Jamestown’s contribution to understanding the challenges the United States and its allies face in this complex global era.”

Formerly a professor at Harvard and Columbia Universities, Brzezinski is a frequent commentator on major U.S. and foreign TV programs, as well as a contributor to domestic and foreign newspapers and journals. His most recent book The Grand Chessboard: American Primacy and its Geostrategic Imperatives was published in 1997 to critical acclaim.

“I look forward to working with Dr. Brzezinski,” Howard said. “He will play a leading role in strengthening the insightful, informed analysis that has been a hallmark of Jamestown’s approach for nearly two decades.”

Founded in 1984, The Jamestown Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing public understanding of those actors that seek to fragment and destabilize the international community.
