Azerbaijani student accused of Pan-Turkist activity sentenced to five years in Iran

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. Iranian court accused Azerbaijani student of Peyami-Nur University of Erdebil Esger Ekberzadeh of Pan-Turkist activity and national discrimination and sentenced him to five years. World Azerbaijanis Congress told APA that under another decision of the court Ekberzadeh had been sent to Zahidan jail in the east of Iran. The hearing was closed. Ekberzadeh’s lawyer, human rights defenders and family members were not allowed to attend the hearing.
Esger Ekberzadeh was imprisoned for four months in 2006 for participation in the pickets against publication of caricatures insulting Azerbaijanis in the “Iran” newspaper. He was fined of 600,000 tomans for spreading leaflets calling to pickets.

    Turks in Iran cannot speak their own native language. Some claim this language is Azeri, some say this language is Azerri-Turkish, … what else.
    In fact, this language is Turkish like that spoken in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Crimea, and Gagauziya. If a poet or scholar use the word cenub instead of ‘guney’, it does not mean cenub is in Azeri-Turkish, guney is in Turkey’s Turkish. It’s the fualt of that very person, who cannot follow the language of his nation. The same concerns the Azerbaijan Republic. All here say “Shimali Iraq” instead of “Kuzey Irak”. Shimali is not a Turkish word, the suffix as well. So, we have to solve our langauge problem first to defend the rights of Turks in Iran

    Turkish defence forces with the name Qizilbash who were mostly Turkmens have been defending Iran throughout history. They were so sincere that they had often defeated other Turkish forces of their brethren siding with the Shiite rulers of Iran.
    This act is not a wise step for the part of Iran. The more harsh they will act, the more they will suffer. For the time they are only confronting America for their Nuclear quarrel. They will never ever be able to carry on with such activities.
