No Agreement In Turkey Over Two Top Military Jobs -Statement

Turkey’s government and four star generals ended days of wrangling Wednesday with no agreement over whom to appoint to the military’s two top jobs, according to a statement from the Chief of the General Staff.

The four day meeting of the Supreme Military Council comes in the midst of a struggle for power between Turkey’s armed forces, which have conducted or encouraged four coups since 1960, and the Islamic-leaning Justice and Development Party. The meeting has been closely watched for signs of the military’s ebbing power.
