He has worked primarily with international software, training and consulting companies. A Lecturer at the University of Ottawa, he has delivered customized seminars in Software Engineering to participants in North America and Europe, always achieving the highest evaluations. Dr. Oren has worked as Senior Instructor for Sterling Software, Inc., Senior Consultant for Yourdon Canada, Inc. and Manager of Systems and Procedures for the LASSA (B.F. Goodrich) Tire Company. A graduate of the Universities of Istanbul and Pisa, he holds a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics-Physics, a Masters degree in Computer Science and Doctorate in Operations Research. OVERVIEW Are outside forces causing you to consider re-engineering your management information systems (MIS)? Rapidly changing markets, narrow margins, the need for more precision in initiating costs, quality initiatives, inventory controls and a whole host of other factors are increasingly forcing more and more business decisions to be data driven. This has placed enormous burdens on management information systems. These pressures often require re-engineering of MIS. The critical issue is what methodology should be used in this initiative. A methodology that has received much attention in recent years in the object-oriented approach. Object-oriented analysis, object-oriented design, object-oriented programming, object-oriented databases and object-oriented systems development are increasingly turning up in the literature. Should your organization be using the object-oriented approach for systems analysis, design and implementation? Does the object-oriented approach reduce the system development life cycle or errors in the development process? Is maintenance facilitated by this approach? What are the problems you might face in moving to an object-oriented approach and what are the costs? These questions and others will be dealt with in a seminar organized by Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute at Florida State University. A myriad of tools and programming languages have been developed using the object-oriented paradigm. Additionally, the concepts have been applied to databases and systems development. An object-oriented systems development approach requires a shift in thinking from the traditional methods. This seminar focuses on the rationale for this shift and what is to be gained, if anything, by using an object-oriented approach to systems development and implementation. SEMINAR BENEFITS * Provide up-to-date information about the object-oriented approach for management information systems analysis, design and implementation * Provide a framework for re-designing your management information system * Provide a management perspective on what object-oriented technology can do and more importantly, what it cannot do * Provide a guide to management during the decision of whether, when and how to apply object-oriented technology * Provide a practical application of object-oriented technology in a three tiered architecture for a local firm. The design approach, business impact, development methodology and lessons learned are shared. WHO SHOULD ATTEND Information Systems Development: An Object-Oriented Approach is a new seminar designed for executives from small to middle-sized companies and division directors from larger companies. This includes CEO's, COO's and Executive Vice Presidents. Vice Presidents of information systems, finance and marketing as well as directors and managers from these functions can profit from this program. TOPICS * Terminology and concepts associated with the object-oriented paradigm. * Definition of critical success factors associated with object-oriented systems development * Management perspective on what object-oriented technology can and can't do. * Determination of whether, when and how to apply object-oriented approach * Characteristics of problems best suited for object-oriented methodology * Tools available for object-oriented system development REGISTRATION INFORMATION SCHEDULE AND LOCATION: This intensive program begins with registration starting at 8:00 a.m. Classes will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. All classroom sessions and breaks will be held on the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute at Florida State University. The seminar will be held in Keen Building Seminar Room 55, Tallahassee, Florida 32306. FEES AND REGISTRATION The program fee of $375 includes course materials and coffee breaks. If two or more participants enroll from the same company, the program fee will be $325 per person.
