The software will eventually service all 23 campuses of this university system, running in a three-tier configuration utilizing IBM RS/6000 UNIX servers, Microsoft Windows clients, and an Oracle database. Computron was selected after an evaluation that included client/server applications competitors PeopleSoft, Oracle, and Hyperion. Key strengths Computron exhibited were its open toolset approach to modifying the application, ability to easily integrate with other applications, scalability of its n-tier architecture, integrated business process reengineering Workflow and COOL tools, and fund/encumbrance accounting functionality. According to Andy Typaldos, Computron Software's chairman and CEO, this contract is further evidence of Computron's success in penetrating the marketplace for state/local governments and its thrust into educational financial systems that require powerful encumbrance/fund accounting functionality. Computron's products consist of three distinct lines, all of which are available as standalone products or, most commonly, as tightly integrated solutions. These products are Computron Financials, a comprehensive suite of client/server financial applications; Computron Workflow, a leading workflow management solution for automatically routing information and managing traditionally manual business processes; and, Computron COOL, a client/server archival management solution that takes report data, indexes and stores it on inexpensive optical disk, making it available on-line to any user in the enterprise.
