Let me briefly explain the situation. Some time before Christmas aol (America Online) updated the way their mail servers work and they blocked mail comming from specific domain names that they felt were spamming or allowing spamming. They also released a list of the blocked domains. About this time many of our users began to complain that mail sent from their virtual server or web accounts to aol accounts appeared to never arrive. We checked with the aol list and we were not listed anywhere as being blocked. This problem continued and we were baffled. We continued to contact aol and they said the problem was not with their mail system. They said we were not being blocked and that the problem was with our version of sendmail. This was very strange as we had not changed our sendmail at all. After significant testing on our part and on the part of many of our users, we figured out that all mail was indeed getting blocked from our servers to aol mail accounts. We contacted them again and they did some research and finally admitted we were indeed being blocked. We told aol that we do not in any way approve of spam coming from our servers and it is against our service contract. They said they will forward our case on to the powers that be and get this resolved but told us that (direct quote here) "it will be some time before it will be considered, due to the holiday season." We are in contact with them to put a rush job on this as it is affecting many of our users as well as theirs. We can only hope they will see the urgency. In the interim, if you have an aol account, or have customers that do, tell them to go into their mail preferences and click the button that "allows junk mail to be received" and mail will get through. You might also want to pick up the phone and contact aol asking them to hurry with this matter. As a direct result of this we want to reiterate our policy on spamming. We do NOT allow unsolicited email to be sent from our servers. We will be very strict with this policy and disable any server that is in violation of this. We sincerely appologize for the inconvenience and hope to have this resolved as soon as aol will allow. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact support@intercom.org Kind regards and once again happy new year. Your Internet Communications Supprt Team
