{"id":9813,"date":"2009-03-04T22:15:25","date_gmt":"2009-03-04T19:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.turkishforum.com.tr\/en\/content\/?p=9813"},"modified":"2023-04-06T13:36:18","modified_gmt":"2023-04-06T10:36:18","slug":"turkey-planning-to-open-a-new-military-base-in-the-black-sea-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/2009\/03\/04\/turkey-planning-to-open-a-new-military-base-in-the-black-sea-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"New military base in the Black Sea coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Turkish Naval Forces are planning to establish a new military base in the country&#8217;s Black Sea province of Trabzon, Hurriyet daily reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The planned military base will be\u00a0the second on the country\u2019s Black Sea coast.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Turkey<\/span> aims to monitor developments in the Black Sea more closely after\u00a0last year&#8217;s\u00a0Russia-Georgia conflict, by\u00a0establishing a new military base\u00a0600 kilometers east of\u00a0the base at the\u00a0Karadeniz Eregli district in the northern province of Zonguldak, the report said without citing any source.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Hurriyet said the Turkish military confirmed that works are underway in Trabzon for the planning of a logistics base. The construction of the base will start with routine appointments in summer, the report added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The\u00a0story came weeks after media reports suggested that the U.S. may look at setting up a military base in Trabzon as an alternative to the Manas base in Kyrgyzstan which is due to close later this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Turkish army said last month that the U.S. has not knocked on the country&#8217;s door regarding the establishment of a base on the Black Sea coast after the closure decision of the Kyrgyzstan base that is key for Afghanistan operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Turkish Naval Forces are planning to establish a new military base in the country&#8217;s Black Sea province of Trabzon, Hurriyet daily reported on Wednesday.
