{"id":84620,"date":"2016-04-01T23:50:09","date_gmt":"2016-04-01T22:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/content\/?p=84620"},"modified":"2023-04-27T14:33:46","modified_gmt":"2023-04-27T11:33:46","slug":"soghomon-tehlirian-to-be-commemorated-in-berlin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/2016\/04\/01\/soghomon-tehlirian-to-be-commemorated-in-berlin\/","title":{"rendered":"Soghomon Tehlirian to be Commemorated in Berlin"},"content":{"rendered":"<article id=\"post-148278\" class=\"post-148278 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail hentry category-latest category-news category-top-stories content-print\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div id=\"attachment_148280\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Soghomon Tehlirian<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>BERLIN (ArmRadio)\u2013It was on March 15, 1921 that Armenian avenger Soghomon Tehlirian assassinated Talaat Pasha, one of the masterminds of the Armenian Genocide.<\/p>\n<p>On April 2, 120th anniversary of Tehlirian\u2019s birth, representatives of the Armenian community will gather on Hardenbergstra\u00dfe in Berlin, the site where Talaat was assassinated, to hold an event in memory of Tehlirian<\/p>\n<p>Tehlirian shadowed Talaat as he left his house on Hardenbergstra\u00dfe on the morning of March 15, 1921. He crossed the street to view him from the opposite sidewalk, then crossed it once more to walk past him to confirm his identity. He then turned around and pointed his gun to shoot him in the nape of the neck.<\/p>\n<p>Talaat was felled with a single 9mm parabellum round from a Luger P08 pistol. The assassination took place in broad daylight and led to Tehlirian\u2019s immediate arrest by German police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI killed him, but I am not a murderer,\u201d Tehlirian said of himself.<\/p>\n<p>After a two-day trial, Tehlirian was found not guilty by the German court, and freed.
