She grew up and went to school in France. She attended La F\u00e9mis and graduated in 2008.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Film_career\" class=\"mw-headline\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-79934\" src=\"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/tr\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Deniz.jpg\" alt=\"Deniz\" width=\"300\" height=\"446\" \/>Film career<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In 2011 Erg\u00fcven was invited to attend the Cannes Film Festivals Atelier to help develop her project,<i>The Kings<\/i>.\u00a0While there she met fellow director Alice Winocour who was there to develop her first feature film <i>Augustine<\/i>. After Erg\u00fcven was unable to find financing for her film Winocour suggested she write a more intimate piece leading the two to begin work on the script for <i>Mustang<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Her debut film <i>Mustang<\/i> premiered in the Directors&#8217; Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival\u00a0where it won the Europa Cinemas Label Award.\u00a0It later played in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.\u00a0The film was selected as the French entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Personal_life\" class=\"mw-headline\">Personal life<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Erg\u00fcven was pregnant while filming <i>Mustang<\/i> and gave birth to her son on February 11, 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deniz Gamze Erg\u00fcven (born 4 June 1978) is a Turkish-French film director best known for her debut film Mustang.
