The U.S. has Repeatedly Violated the \u201cRed Line\u201d on Chemical Weapons<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0U.S.\u00a0encouraged\u00a0Saddam Hussein\u2019s use of chemical weapons against Iran \u2026 which was the\u00a0largest\u00a0use of chemical weapons\u00a0in history<\/em>.\u00a0 While the number of people killed in the August 21st chemical weapons attack has been estimated at\u00a0between\u00a0350 and 1,429,\u00a020,000 Iranians and 5,000 Kurds\u00a0were killed by Saddam\u2019s chemical weapons attacks with\u00a0full U.S. support and backing.<\/p>\n

The U.S. sprayed nearly\u00a020,000,000 gallons\u00a0of material containing chemical herbicides and defoliants mixed with jet fuel in Vietnam, eastern Laos and parts of Cambodia. Vietnam estimates\u00a0400,000<\/em>\u00a0people were killed or maimed, and\u00a0500,000<\/em>\u00a0children born with birth defects as a result of its use. \u00a0 The Red Cross of Vietnam estimates that up to 1 million<\/em> people are disabled or have health problems due to Agent Orange.<\/p>\n

The United States has used chemical weapons\u00a0in the last 10 years.<\/p>\n

The U.S.\u00a0agreed\u00a0pursuant to the international Chemical Weapons Convention to destroy its chemical weapons stockpiles by April 2007.\u00a0 It received several extensions. The\u00a0final extension expired in April 2012.\u00a0 The U.S.\u00a0failed to comply\u00a0with the deadline.\u00a0 (Syria was never a signatory to the treaty.)<\/p>\n

Given the above, does the U.S. have the moral or legal standing to accuse Syria of violating a \u201cred line\u201d on chemical weapons?<\/p>\n

Notes: U.S. military action in Libya and Syria have also caused chemical weapons to\u00a0fall into the hands of Al Qaeda\u00a0\u2026 and Al Qaeda has in fact\u00a0used those weapons.<\/p>\n

Britain has also used chemical weapons\u00a0within the past 10 years, and has been caught allowing its companies to\u00a0sell nerve gas chemical weapons\u00a0to Syria for years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
