{"id":68108,"date":"2013-03-19T15:22:45","date_gmt":"2013-03-19T13:22:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/?p=68108"},"modified":"2014-01-08T01:24:37","modified_gmt":"2014-01-07T23:24:37","slug":"imax-strikes-theater-deal-in-turkey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/2013\/03\/19\/imax-strikes-theater-deal-in-turkey\/","title":{"rendered":"Imax Strikes Theater Deal in Turkey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The giant-screen exhibitor reaches an agreement with exhibitor Mars Entertainment to add three Imax screens, bringing the country&#8217;s total to five.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-68110\" alt=\"ShoWest 2009 - Day 1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/andrew_cripps.jpg\" width=\"349\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/andrew_cripps.jpg 349w, https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/andrew_cripps-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 349px) 100vw, 349px\" \/>LONDON \u2013 Imax Corp., listed on the New York stock exchange, has inked a deal with Mars Entertainment Group for three Imax theaters to be installed in cities throughout Turkey.<\/p>\n<p>The deal will bring the exhibitor\u2019s Imax commitment to five in total, adding to the two theaters currently in operation in Ankara and Istanbul.<\/p>\n<p>Mars Entertainment Group CEO Muzaffer Yildirim noted that the gross box-office revenues of the group&#8217;s Imax theaters in Istanbul and Ankara &#8220;continuously over-perform their targets over the previous year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Added Yildirim: &#8220;As we begin our aggressive expansion program in Turkey, Imax will serve as a key component to our growth strategy and help to strengthen our overall business in the country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Imax CEO Richard L. Gelfond said the deal is an indication of his company&#8217;s growth strategy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With a focus on tailoring our programming in international markets and partnering with leading international exhibitors, such as Mars Entertainment Group, we expect to set the stage for continued growth in Europe,&#8221; Gelfond said.<\/p>\n<p>Imax EMEA president Andrew Cripps described Turkey as being an &#8220;under-penetrated market, both from an overall cinema and Imax standpoint.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2001, Mars Entertainment Group is Turkey\u2019s largest movie-theater circuit, with 57 theaters with 491 screens in 22 different cities nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>As of Dec. 31, 2012, there were 731 Imax theaters (598 commercial multiplexes, 19 commercial destinations and 114 institutions) in 53 countries.<\/p>\n<p>via Imax Strikes Theater Deal in Turkey &#8211; The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The giant-screen exhibitor reaches an agreement with exhibitor Mars Entertainment to add three Imax screens, bringing the country&#8217;s total to five.
