{"id":58301,"date":"2012-11-04T14:47:00","date_gmt":"2012-11-04T12:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/?p=58301"},"modified":"2013-10-19T19:52:32","modified_gmt":"2013-10-19T16:52:32","slug":"british-soldier-stabbed-to-death-in-south-cyprus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/2012\/11\/04\/british-soldier-stabbed-to-death-in-south-cyprus\/","title":{"rendered":"British Soldier Stabbed To Death In South Cyprus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Kuzey-K\u0131br\u0131s-Haritas\u0131.gif\"><\/span>A British soldier has been stabbed to death during a fight with UK tourists in a Cyprus nightclub, police have said.<\/p>\n<p>Cypriot police said four off-duty soldiers stationed on the island got involved in an altercation with three tourists in the early hours of Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p>One of the tourists then allegedly drew a switch blade knife and stabbed the teenage soldier, according to police spokesman Georgios Economou.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;Today at around 3.30am while a group of British soldiers from Dhekelia garrison were enjoying themselves at a club in Ayia Napa they had a confrontation with three of their compatriots.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During the confrontation one of the three drew what is believed to be a knife injuring the soldier in the chest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He was pronounced dead on arrival at Famagusta General Hospital in nearby Paralimni.<\/p>\n<p>Connie Pierce, a British military spokeswoman, said the incident took place in a part of Ayia Napa that is off limits to British soldiers because of past trouble there.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Defence confirmed a British soldier was killed following a fight on the island.
