{"id":4934,"date":"2008-09-28T22:58:33","date_gmt":"2008-09-28T19:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/?p=4934"},"modified":"2014-01-01T19:53:49","modified_gmt":"2014-01-01T17:53:49","slug":"us-ambassadorial-nominee-for-turkey-doesnt-dispute-morgenthaus-record-on-armenian-genocide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/2008\/09\/28\/us-ambassadorial-nominee-for-turkey-doesnt-dispute-morgenthaus-record-on-armenian-genocide\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Ambassadorial nominee for Turkey doesn\u2019t dispute Morgenthau\u2019s record on Armenian Genocide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\/PanARMENIAN.Net\/<\/strong> Ambassador to Turkey designate <strong>James Jeffrey<\/strong>, in response to questions from Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman and Vice-Presidential candidate Joe Biden (D-DE), affirmed that official U.S. diplomatic reports by Ambassadors Morgenthau and Elkus and other Armenian Genocide-era U.S. diplomats in the Ottoman Empire did, in fact, describe the attempted extermination of the Armenian population, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) told PanARMENIAN.Net.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Although falling far short of a clear and proper recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Ambassador Jeffrey, in his response to Senator Biden\u2019s questioning, moved U.S. policy in the right direction <em>by publicly agreeing <\/em>\u2013 after long years of official disregard, disrespect, and dismissal of Ambassador Henry Morgenthau\u2019s proud legacy &#8211; that our nation\u2019s diplomatic representatives to the Ottoman Empire did, in fact, document the Ottoman government\u2019s clear intent and systematic campaign to destroy its Armenian population,&#8221; <\/strong>said ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian. <strong>&#8220;We want to thank Chairman Biden for his thoughtful inquiries that led to this reaffirmation of the American record, and to, once again, express our appreciation to Senators Menendez and Kerry for their incisive lines of questioning during the Foreign Relations Committee\u2019s confirmation hearing earlier this week.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In questions submitted to the Amb. Jeffrey, Sen.
