French President Nicolas Sarkozy reportedly told US President <\/strong>\r\nBarack Obama that he could not \"stand\" Prime Minister Benjamin <\/em><\/strong>\r\nNetanyahu and that he thinks the Israeli premier \"is a liar.\"<\/strong><\/em>\r\n\r\nAccording to a Monday report in the French website \"Arret sur <\/em><\/strong>\r\nImages,\"<\/em> after facing reporters for a G20 press conference on <\/strong>\r\nThursday, the two presidents retired to a private room, to <\/strong>\r\nfurther discuss the matters of the day.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe conversation apparently began with President Obama criticizing <\/strong>\r\nSarkozy for not having warned him that France would be voting <\/strong>\r\nin favor of the Palestinian membership bid in UNESCO despite <\/strong>\r\nWashington's strong objection to the move.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe conversation then drifted to Netanyahu, at which time <\/strong>\r\nSarkozy declared: \"I cannot stand him. He is a liar.\"<\/em> According <\/strong>\r\nto the report, Obama replied: \"You're fed up with him, but I <\/em><\/strong>\r\nhave to deal with him every day!\"<\/strong><\/em>\r\n\r\nThe remark was naturally meant to be said in confidence, but <\/strong>\r\nthe two leaders' microphones were accidently left on, making <\/strong>\r\nthe would-be private comment embarrassingly public.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe communication faux pas went unnoticed for several minutes, <\/strong>\r\nduring which the conversation between the two heads of state \u2013 <\/strong>\r\nwhich quickly reverted to other matters \u2013 was all but open <\/strong>\r\nto members the press, who were still in possession of headsets <\/strong>\r\nprovided by the Elys\u00e9e for the sake of simultaneous translation <\/strong>\r\nduring the G20 press conference.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\"\" <\/strong><\/pre>\n
\"By the time the (media) services at the Elys\u00e9e realize it, <\/strong>\r\nit was on for at least three minutes,\" one journalist told <\/strong>\r\nthe website. Still, he said that reporters \"did not have a <\/strong>\r\nchance to take advantage of this fluke.\"<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe surprising lack of coverage may be explained by a report <\/strong>\r\nalleging that journalists present at the event were requested <\/strong>\r\nto sign an agreement to keep mum on the embarrassing comments. <\/strong>\r\nA Reuters reporter was among the journalists present and can <\/strong><\/em>\r\nconfirm the veracity of the comments.<\/strong><\/em>\r\n\r\nA member of the media confirmed Monday that \"there were discussions <\/em><\/strong>\r\nbetween journalists and they agreed not to publish the comments <\/strong><\/em>\r\ndue to the sensitivity of the issue.\"<\/strong><\/em>\r\n\r\nHe added that while it was annoying to have to refrain from <\/strong>\r\npublishing the information, the journalists are subject to <\/strong>\r\nprecise rules of conduct.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nwww.ynetnews.com, 07.11.2011<\/strong><\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
