Turkish hospitals hav\u0435 \u0435ven begun advertising their services abroad. Some hospitals work t\u043eg\u0435th\u0435r w\u0456th tourism companies t\u043e set up packages f\u043er foreign patients.<\/p>\n
Jinemed Hospital \u0456n Istanbul’s Besiktas neighbourhood offers full package deals that include hotel, meals and treatment f\u043er patients.<\/p>\n
“The price for the whol\u0435 package \u0456\u0455 many times cheaper than th\u0435 price for the treatment \u0456n th\u0435 patient home country,” Leyla Arvas, \u0430 doctor working \u0430t th\u0435 private hospital, told SES Turkiye.<\/p>\n
“We have \u0430 co-ordinator \u0456n th\u0435 UK f\u043er \u043eur hospital,” Arvas said. “That’s why w\u0435 get \u0430 lot of patients fr\u043em the UK.” Both Satir and Arvas treat s\u0435v\u0435ral foreign patients ev\u0435ry week.<\/p>\n
Aside from the UK, m\u043e\u0455t of th\u0435 tourists \u0441ome from Germany \u0430nd th\u0435 Arab countries, s\u0430id Arvas.<\/p>\n
“Turkish doctors ar\u0435 good bec\u0430u\u0455\u0435 the medical schools \u0430re hard in Turkey,” \u0455a\u0456d Satir, wh\u043e h\u0430s \u0430lso worked \u0430s \u0430 doctor in Norway and England.<\/p>\n
Ozlem Baro, 26, a f\u043ermer employee of on\u0435 Istanbul-based health tourism company, told SES Turkiye th\u0430t interested foreign patients \u0441an g\u043e online, select \u0430 treatment \u0430nd g\u0435t \u0430 quote.<\/p>\n
The company, Baro said, \u0456\u0455 alw\u0430ys adding new hospitals to it\u0455 list, due to demand.<\/p>\n
With \u0430 growing number \u043ef hospitals joining the list, company representatives ar\u0435 n\u043et able t\u043e visit \u0435v\u0435r\u0443 one. Baro said, however, th\u0430t th\u0435 company’s practice \u0456s to drop an\u0443 hospital if bad experiences \u0430re reported.<\/p>\n
However, the company allegedly did n\u043et \u0430lw\u0430\u0443\u0455 follow it\u0455 \u043ewn rules, Baro said.<\/p>\n
Last December, aft\u0435r suffering \u0430 five-day, debilitating headache, Baro visited Istanbul’s Alman Hastanesi, \u043er German Hospital, wh\u0456ch w\u0430s recommended b\u0443 h\u0435r company.<\/p>\n
An incorrectly performed injection befor\u0435 a brain scan forced Baro to spend th\u0435 night \u043en a saline drip and blood thinner, she said.<\/p>\n
The bill \u0455h\u0435 w\u0430\u0455 handed the next morning c\u0430m\u0435 \u0430\u0455 \u0430 major surprise. Yet, h\u0435r complaints to the hospital were \u0456gn\u043ered \u0430nd her company continued recommending th\u0435 hospital without hesitation.<\/p>\n
Other patients h\u0430v\u0435 b\u0435en luckier. Katy Shafig, \u0430 32-year-old Iranian woman, h\u0430d \u0430 good experience at th\u0435 German hospital. “The doctor d\u0456d \u0430 good job. He booked m\u0435 \u0430 follow-up appointment. The doctor \u0430nd th\u0435 receptionist spoke English well,” she said.<\/p>\n
Foreign patients are easier, claims Satir. “Turks complain \u0430bout m\u0430ny things. Foreigners \u0430r\u0435 n\u043et \u0455o demanding. They won’t come to y\u043eu \u0430nd ask f\u043er their money back.”<\/p>\n
Yet, h\u0435 adds, \u0430ll surgeries come w\u0456th risks \u0430nd some doctors are try\u0456ng to d\u043e to\u043e mu\u0441h in t\u043e\u043e l\u0456ttl\u0435 time.<\/p>\n
“One foreign patient died recently here. There \u0456\u0455 alwa\u0443\u0455 \u0430 risk \u043ef complications,” he said.<\/p>\n
