{"id":37053,"date":"2011-07-03T15:14:50","date_gmt":"2011-07-03T12:14:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.turkishforum.com.tr\/en\/content\/?p=37053"},"modified":"2011-07-03T15:14:50","modified_gmt":"2011-07-03T12:14:50","slug":"turkish-lesson-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/2011\/07\/03\/turkish-lesson-23\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkish Lesson 23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lesson 23<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ge\u00e7mi\u015f Zaman &#8211; Past Tense <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The past form of verbs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All we need to do is after the verb stem bring \u2013<strong>di<\/strong> (do not forget that it changes into \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0&#8211;<strong>d\u0131, -du, -d\u00fc<\/strong> according to the last vowel of the verb or \u2013<strong>ti, -t\u0131, -tu, -t\u00fc<\/strong> -assimilation-) After past tense ending, all you need to add is the personal endings according to your subject.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> When we make past tense, the personal endings are not all the same as for the present tense. The personal ending for the First Person Plural (Biz) is \u2013uz, but in past tense it is <strong>\u2013k<\/strong>. The personal ending for the Second Personal Plural (Siz) is sunuz, but in past tense it is <strong>\u2013niz, -n\u0131z, -nuz, -n\u00fcz.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ex; <strong>Biz <\/strong>\u015fimdi geliyor<strong>uz<\/strong>. (We are coming now.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biz<\/strong> d\u00fcn geldi<strong>k<\/strong>. (We came yesterday.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biz<\/strong> hep o bara gider<strong>iz<\/strong>. (We always go to that bar.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biz<\/strong> d\u00fcn o bara gitti<strong>k<\/strong>. (We went to that bar yesterday.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Siz<\/strong> \u00e7ok h\u0131zl\u0131 ko\u015far<strong>s\u0131n\u0131z<\/strong>. (You run very fast.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Siz<\/strong> \u00e7ok h\u0131zl\u0131 ko\u015ftu<strong>nuz<\/strong>. (You ran very fast.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Siz <\/strong>\u00e7ok g\u00fczel \u015fark\u0131 s\u00f6yl\u00fcyor<strong>sunuz<\/strong>. (You are singing very well.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Siz<\/strong> \u00e7ok g\u00fczel \u015fark\u0131 s\u00f6yledi<strong>niz<\/strong>. (You sang very well.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assimilation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>-di<\/strong> will turn into <strong>\u2013ti<\/strong> (-t\u0131, -t\u00fc, -tu) if the last sound of the stem is <strong>\u00e7, f, t, h, s, k, p, \u015f. <\/strong>These letters called \u2018voiceless consonants\u2019.
