Personal adjectives and personal suffixes <\/strong><\/p>\n

(iyelik s\u0131fatlar\u0131 ve iyelik ekleri)<\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

To talk about things which belong to us or someone else, we use personal adjectives and personal suffixes. Unfortunately it is not as easy as English. In English you just put \u2018s<\/strong> to indicate the possession for example;<\/p>\n

Selma\u2019s pen, Kerry\u2019s hair.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Turkish after the person\u2019s name you bring \u2018\u0131n, \u2018in, \u2018un, \u2018\u00fcn. <\/strong>It does not stop there you also need to put the possessive suffix after the word which is possessed. Examples will make it more clear;<\/p>\n

Ahmet\u2019in<\/strong> kalemi<\/strong><\/p>\n

Susan\u2019\u0131n <\/strong>defteri<\/strong><\/p>\n

John\u2019un <\/strong>evi<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sultan\u2019\u0131n <\/strong>makas\u0131<\/strong><\/p>\n

Darren\u2019\u0131n <\/strong>sa\u00e7\u0131<\/strong><\/p>\n

*Efe\u2019nin <\/strong>k\u0131z arkada\u015f\u0131<\/strong><\/p>\n

*<\/strong>Ayla\u2019n\u0131n <\/strong>arabas\u0131<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

* The letters in blue are the buffer letters<\/strong> which we mentioned before. They are there to help us to pronounce the words easily. In Turkish it is very unlikely to have 2 wovels one after another in the same syllable. When this happens we need to put a buffer letter between 2 vowels. Just to remind you again; the buffer letters are Y,\u015e,S,N<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s have a look at the possessive adjectives (iyelik s\u0131fatlar\u0131)<\/p>\n

After these personal pronouns there should be a word.<\/p>\n

– If the last syllable of the word has (e <\/strong>or i<\/strong>), the suffixes will be im, in, i,<\/strong> imiz, iniz, i<\/strong>. Let\u2019s use \u201cev\u201d <\/strong>with our personal adjectives.<\/p>\n

Benim evim\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bizim evimiz<\/p>\n

I know it all looks so confusing a comlicated. But once you get used to the rules it will all come naturally and you will not think about the letters, vowels, buffers…. This is why Turkish is best learn by hearing it. Obviously it is always an advantage how to write and spell correctly.<\/p>\n
