Enter the \u201cTaxi of Tomorrow\u201d competition and its finalists: Nissan, Ford and Karsan.<\/p>\n<p>Karsan, a Turkish car manufacturer, has the only wheel chair accessible model of the finalists. And if a new bill proposed by State Assemblyman Micah Kellner\u2014that would make all new NYC taxi cabs wheel chair accessible by October 1st, 2014\u2014is passed today, Karsan will be shipping to us our &#8220;taxi of tomorrow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Assemblyman Micah Kellner, who previously championed the privatization of wheel chair accessible taxis, has since taken matters into his own hands with his proposed legislation\u2014a direct response to lack of progress made by NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC).<\/p>\n<p>According to Gothamist, \u201c65.5% of responders liked or loved [Karsan\u2019s] airy design versus 38% for the Ford design and 42.4 for the Nissan look.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>via nypress<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Posted By: Spencer Winans In late October of 2010, Ford Motor Company announced the end of the Crown Victoria\u2014which meant the over 13,000 NYC taxi cabs, most of which are Crown Vics, would soon be replaced by a new model and a new fleet.
