{"id":29105,"date":"2010-12-16T02:25:22","date_gmt":"2010-12-16T00:25:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.turkishforum.com.tr\/en\/content\/?p=29105"},"modified":"2010-12-16T02:25:22","modified_gmt":"2010-12-16T00:25:22","slug":"turkey-continues-talks-over-helicopters-purchase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/2010\/12\/16\/turkey-continues-talks-over-helicopters-purchase\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey continues talks over helicopters purchase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANKARA, Dec 15 (Reuters) &#8211; NATO member Turkey said on Wednesday negotiations to buy 121 helicopters from bidders U.S. Sikorsky Aircraft and Italy&#8217;s Agusta-Westland were continuing after their offers were found to be &#8216;inadequate&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We will continue talks with the two bidders to try to negotiate a lower price,&#8217; Turkey&#8217;s Defence Minister Vecdi Gonul told journalists at the end of a defence ministry committee meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan.<\/p>\n<p>The helicopters, which would be used by the Turkish armed forces and the police, are part of a modernisation of the country&#8217;s defence.<\/p>\n<p>The only two bidders are Sikorsky, a unit of United Technologies, and Agusta-Westland, a unit of Finmeccanica SpA.
