Turkish classical pianist-composer Tuluyhan U\u011furlu will perform the first concert of his upcoming album later this month at \u0130stanbul\u2019s famous Grand Bazaar, news agencies reported last week.<\/p>\n
U\u011furlu, best known for his thematic music that takes the history of \u0130stanbul and Turkey as his subject matter, will kick off a series of celebrations marking the 550th anniversary of the historic building with a concert scheduled for Dec. 26.<\/p>\n
U\u011furlu\u2019s new album, titled \u201cSonsuza Kadar \u0130stanbul\u201d (\u0130stanbul Forever), is a continuation of the composer\u2019s 2006 work \u201cD\u00fcnya Ba\u015fkenti \u0130stanbul\u201d or \u201cA World Capital — \u0130stanbul,\u201d which he has performed for audiences in around 250 concerts in Turkey and abroad, the Anatolia news agency reported.<\/p>\n
A customary characteristic of all U\u011furlu concerts, a visual show that complements the music with snapshots of \u0130stanbul, will again be featured during the Grand Bazaar concert, Anatolia said.<\/p>\n
The Grand Bazaar, built in 1461, during the rule of Sultan Mehmet II, will turn 550 in 2011, which will be celebrated with several cultural events at the historic building. The bazaar, one of the most significant tourist attractions of the old city, is normally closed on Sundays, but will be opened on Dec. 26 especially for this event, Anatolia reported.<\/p>\n
The gigantic bazaar, which has 65 streets and 22 gates, attracts around 300,000 visitors daily to its 3,300 stores.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
