{"id":21423,"date":"2010-08-19T13:57:10","date_gmt":"2010-08-19T11:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.turkishforum.com.tr\/en\/content\/?p=21423"},"modified":"2023-04-04T18:47:24","modified_gmt":"2023-04-04T15:47:24","slug":"council-website-hit-by-turkish-hackers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/2010\/08\/19\/council-website-hit-by-turkish-hackers\/","title":{"rendered":"Council website hit by Turkish hackers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Red-faced\u00a0IT bosses at Stafford Borough Council are hacked off after the authority\u2019s website was broken into by a Turkish protest group.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"229\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-21424\" src=\"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Turkish-Cyber-Army.bmp\" alt=\"\" \/>The hackers forced the council to close its site after a member of staff noticed the problem when they tried to log on and saw<strong> a black screen proclaiming the Turkish Cyber Army. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The group broke into the server which provides the site, run by Mid Counties Co-op, redirecting surfers to their own site. Their home screen displayed a picture of <strong>an ancient scroll<\/strong>. with the words \u201cworld protest\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It also said:<strong> \u201cWe are the king of the world\/Turkish Cyber Army!\u201d<\/strong> It is the first time the site, which has been running for 15 years, has been compromised and IT chiefs said no data was at risk.<\/p>\n<p>The site was taken down last Wednesday, August 11, afternoon until Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Council spokesman Will Conaghan said the public web site is a copy that doesn\u2019t contain any sensitive details or data.<\/p>\n<p>The master site containing key information was kept safe behind firewalls, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Kenrick, the council\u2019s head of technology, said: \u201cThere was no risk to data at any time. We took the site down to make sure we had the full picture.
