ANKARA, Turkey (A.W.)-A symposium on the Armenian Genocide titled “1915
\nWithin Its Pre- and Post-Historical Periods: Denial and Confrontation,<\/p>\n

\nwhich was to be held in Ankara, was cancelled on April 21 after facing
\npolitical and bureaucratic hurdles.<\/p>\n
Organized by the Ankara Freedom to Thought Initiative (AFTI), the
\nsymposium was not only going to address history, but explore issues
\nlike the confiscation of Armenian property and reparations.<\/p>\n
Confirmed participants included Ragip Zarakolu (publisher), Recep
\nMarasli (author of The Armenian National Democratic Movement and 1915
\nGenocide), Sait Cetinoglu (activist and writer), David Gaunt (genocide
\nscholar, author of Massacres, Resistance, Protectors: Muslim-Christian
\nRelations in Eastern Anatolia During World War I), Henry Theriault
\n(professor of philosophy, Worcester State University), Baskin Oran
\n(author, professor of political science at Ankara University; one of
\nthe initiators of the apology campaign of Turkish intellectuals),
\nand Khatchig Mouradian (doctoral student in Holocaust and genocide
\nstudies, Clark University; editor, the Armenian Weekly).<\/p>\n
Theriault and Mouradian were scheduled to speak about Genocide
