{"id":181972,"date":"2017-07-21T11:01:58","date_gmt":"2017-07-21T08:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/tr\/content\/?p=181972"},"modified":"2017-07-21T11:01:58","modified_gmt":"2017-07-21T08:01:58","slug":"6-3-magnitude-quake-hits-aegean-turkish-citizen-among-two-killed-in-greeces-kos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/2017\/07\/21\/6-3-magnitude-quake-hits-aegean-turkish-citizen-among-two-killed-in-greeces-kos\/","title":{"rendered":"6.3-magnitude quake hits Aegean, Turkish citizen among two killed in Greece\u2019s Kos"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"ctl00_ctl01_ctl00_pnlImg\" class=\"img PanelImg\">\n<p><a id=\"ctl00_ctl01_ctl00_hypImgMiddle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>A magnitude-6.3 earthquake hit the Aegean Sea near the Turkish coast early on July 21, at least two people, including one Turkish citizen, were killed on the Greek island of Kos after the strong earthquake.<\/p>\n<p>Several people were also injured in the Aegean province of Mu\u011fla.<\/p>\n<p>Mu\u011fla Governor Eseng\u00fcl Civelek told Anadolu Agency initial reports indicated no casualties or structural damage.<\/p>\n<p>Turkey\u2019s Kandilli Observatory and the Earthquake Research Institute stated that 10 centimeters of tsunami wave was observed in Bodrum in the aftermath of the quake.<\/p>\n<p>The quake measuring 6.3 hit at 1.31 a.m. local time at a depth of 7.8 kilometers (4.8 miles), according to the Disaster and Emergency\u00a0Management Authority\u2019s (AFAD) website.<\/p>\n<p>The region was hit by\u00a0approximately 40 more aftershocks ranging in strength between magnitude-3.0 to 4.6, according to the AFAD.<\/p>\n<div class=\"Quote Quote2\">\n<h2>IN PHOTOS: Locals stay outside at night in Bodrum after quake<\/h2>\n<p class=\"Mahrec\"><em><\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Civelek said some residents were spending\u00a0the night outside because of panic and fear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have reached all our\u00a0district as of this moment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>There was no structural damage\u00a0but a small number of residents were slightly injured in the panic, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no electricity cut, but there have been some electric faults due\u00a0\u00a0to the earthquake. We are working on it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Mu\u011fla\u00a0Mayor Osman G\u00fcr\u00fcn said authorities took immediate measures against grass fires due to breakage of electricity transmission lines.<\/p>\n<p>Dat\u00e7a District Mayor G\u00fcrsel Ucar said that two houses\u2019 walls were damaged in Re\u015fadiye Neighborhood. At least 15 people were taken to hospitals after the earthquake, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, rising sea level in Bodrum district after the earthquake caused damage to the several boats and vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Boat owner Yekta Ongun told he was with his family in a boat during the earthquake.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything happened in a short time. There is major damage to our boat; it was sunk.
