{"id":15657,"date":"2009-10-21T22:40:33","date_gmt":"2009-10-21T20:40:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.turkishforum.com.tr\/en\/content\/?p=15657"},"modified":"2023-04-06T15:47:20","modified_gmt":"2023-04-06T12:47:20","slug":"azerbaijani-opposition-party-visits-turkish-soldiers-graves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turkishnews.com\/en\/content\/2009\/10\/21\/azerbaijani-opposition-party-visits-turkish-soldiers-graves\/","title":{"rendered":"Azerbaijani Opposition Party Visits Turkish Soldiers&#8217; Graves"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gdb.rferl.org\/71C0C92E-B174-4FB9-9DE0-9B8738D5B2F9_w393_s.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/>The memorial to Turkish soldiers on the Alley of Martyrs in Baku on October 21.<\/div>\n<div>October 21, 2009<\/div>\n<div>BAKU &#8212; An opposition party has protested against the removal of Turkish flags from a memorial in Baku, RFE\/RL&#8217;s Azerbaijani Service reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Azerbaijan People&#8217;s Front Party (APFP) put wreaths on the graves of the Turkish soldiers, who helped defend Azerbaijan from Armenian forces in 1918.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters said their goal was to show the eternal solidarity of\u00a0 Turkey and Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n<p>Police detained three youths who raised both country&#8217;s flags.<\/p>\n<p>Turkey&#8217;s flags were removed from the same cemetery last week, days after Baku sent a protest note to Turkey because the Azerbaijan flag was banned from a\u00a0 Bursa soccer match attended by the Armenian and Turkish presidents.<\/p>\n<p>Government officials explained the removal by saying the law on national flags allows foreign flags to be displayed only in front of international organizations and diplomatic missions.<\/p>\n<p>Azerbaijani lawmakers have begun revising the law to allow the Turkish flag at the cemetery.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>https:\/\/www.rferl.org\/a\/Azerbaijani_Party_Visits_Turkish_Soldiers_Cemetery\/1857826.html<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The memorial to Turkish soldiers on the Alley of Martyrs in Baku on October 21.
