UN Official Deletes His Tweet on Armenian Genocide, After Pressure from Turkey

Spread the love

The Turkish government resorted to its customary bullying tactics last week to force a high-ranking United Nations (UN) official to delete his tweet on the Armenian Genocide.

On July 27, President of the United Nations General Assembly Abdulla Shahid issued a tweet with four photos showing him placing a wreath at the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan. He wrote in his tweet: “Laid a wreath at the Memorial to the Victims of Armenian Genocide. Special thanks to Museum-Institute Director Harutyun Marutyan & Hasmik Martirosyan for a tour of the Museum.” Marutyan presented to the visitor books on the Armenian Genocide and showed him the three cross-stones dedicated to the memory of Armenians who were killed by Azerbaijan.

The wreath placed by the UN General Assembly President had white and blue flowers and was decorated with a blue ribbon with “United Nations” written on it. In the other photos of his tweet, he was seen observing a moment of silence at the Eternal Flame of the Memorial, taking a tour of the Armenian Genocide Museum, and signing the Guest Book in which he wrote: “I am very moved by my visit to this museum. I thank you for warmly receiving me as a part of my visit to Armenia.”

During his three-day visit to Armenia, the President of the UN General Assembly met with various Armenian officials, including the President of Armenia Vahagn Khachatryan, Deputy Prime Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Vice Chairman of the Parliament Ruben Rubinyan, female diplomats of the Foreign Ministry, and spoke at the graduation ceremony of the Armenian Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic School.

Shortly after Shahid’s visit and tweet, the Turkish Foreign Ministry issued an official statement condemning him for visiting the Armenian Genocide Memorial and alleging that his trip “to Armenia has been exploited with the purpose of exposing one-sided Armenian claims and it is in that context that he paid a visit to the so-called genocide memorial.” The Turkish Foreign Ministry added: “He would have been expected to act in a fair and impartial manner, to be more careful and responsible in this regard. Representatives acting on behalf of the UN authorized bodies must carry out their duties in accordance with the UN legal instruments and relevant norms and rules of international law, particularly the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide dated 1948. We condemn and reject attempts to distort historical facts and international law through political manipulation. Türkiye is of the opinion that the facts regarding the events of 1915 should be dealt with in a full, fair and honest framework.”

Shahid, who is also the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Maldives, immediately deleted the tweet about his visit to the Armenian Genocide Memorial, succumbing to Turkish pressures.

Whereas the Turkish government had succeeded in imposing its will on the UN official, not a single Armenian official who met with the President of the UN General Assembly bothered to question him why he deleted his tweet, let alone criticize him.

Of course, nothing can excuse the submissive behavior of the high-ranking UN official who caved in to the directive of a dictatorial regime, contrary to the UN principles that he was sworn to uphold. Two sources confirmed some of the actions of the Turkish government: The Passblue.com website disclosed that Turkey rescinded its invitation to Shahid to visit Ankara. The Turkish Superhaber.tv further revealed that Turkey withdrew Shahid’s invitation to attend the Ambassadors’ Conference to be held in Ankara on August 8-12. Turkey probably used other behind-the-scenes measures to pressure Shahid.

It is highly offensive that Shahid, by agreeing to delete his tweet, disrespected the Armenian Genocide which had been corroborated by the UN itself. On August 29, 1985, the UN “Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities” adopted a report on genocide by a vote of 15 in favor, 1 opposed, and 4 abstentions. The “Revised and Updated Report on the Question of the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide” was prepared by British Special Rapporteur Benjamin Whitaker. Paragraph 24 of that report stated: “The Nazi aberration has unfortunately not been the only case of genocide in the twentieth century. Among other examples which can be cited as qualifying are the German massacre of Hereros in 1904, [and] the Ottoman massacre of Armenians in 1915-1916 ….” The report also included an extensive bibliography on the Armenian Genocide. An earlier version of that report, prepared by UN Special Rapporteur Nicodeme Ruhashyankiko of Rwanda, had included in its paragraph 30 a reference to the Armenian Genocide which was subsequently deleted after excessive pressure by the Turkish government. I know these facts first-hand because I spent from 1978 to 1985 at the UN in Geneva as the representative of a non-governmental organization on human rights, countering the repeated Turkish attempts to delete the reference to the Armenian Genocide.

The Armenian government may not be aware of these facts. I suggest that the Armenian Foreign Ministry file a strongly-worded complaint with the Secretary-General of the United Nations to have the deleted tweet reinstated and apologize to the Armenian nation.

Mr Sassounian criticizes President of the United Nations General Assembly Abdulla Shahid for deleting his post on Twitter. Mr. Sassounian refers to 1948 Convention, but, unfortunately he seems unaware of the spirit of the Convention, of course not ignorant, his reference is based on the claims of the Armenian side. In my opinion, Mr. Shadid went beyond his limits and wanted to spread the idea that there was a genocide. Later, when he accepted that this was not true, he turned away from his mistake. We congratulate him, since turning from wrong is a modern virtue. If the Armenian side could accept an investigation in the direction suggested by Turkey, then Mr. sassounian would also delete all his documents on the Armenian Cause.

Best regards for the readers of Turkish Forum.

I find Mr. Sassounian’s words against the Turkish Republic and Turks in general racist, incendiary, and offensive. Racist, incendiary and offensive language is the language voiced by ideologues. Nazis used this language fervently.
Mr. Sassounian and the rest of those who continue to harbor an ill-willed, racist and defamatory attitude and language against Turks must understand that racism has incredibly powerful destructive potential as we have seen what the Nazi Germany did to the innocent Jews. The Holocaust or the Jewish Genocide is an event that was very well documented with the genocidal intent by the Nazi German government. There is absolutely no genocidal intent of the Ottoman (Turkish) government during the period between early 1800’s until the end of the Ottoman Empire, 1923. Armenia is a member of the International Court of Justice, which provides judicial evaluation of cases of genocide according to the UN Convention of Genocide. Armenia could take its claim to this court against the Turkish Republic. For example, if you read the defamatory claims in Wikipedia, there must be a whole body of evidence against Turkish state. The fact that Armenians can’t provide any evidence to the court for the past 70 plus years is a testament to the bogus claims and incendiary bullying tactics based on their racism and hate-mongering against Turks. It is a shame to see once again, the united front of the racists, attacking Turks. Here is a definition of racism for those ignorant (or too arrogant to learn) souls. Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized. Therefore, attacking Turks as if they committed genocide against Armenians without any evidence whatsoever and accusing them of a crime that never took place as if they were on par with the racist National Socialist Nazis of Germany who committed genocide against Jews is racism. Shame on you, Mr Sassounian!

Mr Sassonian has to learn what happened in 1915 in Eastern Anatolia. Armenians at high positions in Ottoman government shared secrets with occupied forces. Theregore on April 24, 2015, these professional spies were fired and moved to Anatolian side of İstanbul.
Armenians is Eastern Anatolia joined forces with invading Russian army and fought against the Empire.
They burned almost all of city of Van and killer many innocent people.
The government decided to move the Armenian citizens to southeastern part of the empire to prevent further losses.
I suggest Mr. Sassonian to read the books written by Justin Mccarthy, Michael Gunter.
During the War many lives were lost. We the Turks and Armenians should get together and morn for our losses together

Despite the fact that Mr. Shahid has understood his ramarkable mistake and returned back to the truth, as the high ranking official of the UN, he should have commemorated the real genocide, “Khojaly Genocide”, instead of a fabricated and decorated one with some visual statues which have been attemting to make one of the biggest lies of the history of the human civilization. The pain of this real genocide is still so fresh as its official records, so it is not difficult to remember that while invading the Azerbaijani land Nagorno Karabakh, Armenian Army committed the “Khojaly Genocide” just before entering the 21. century, in 1992. In USA, 16 state parliaments have accepted this cruel massacre as “genocide” as it terminated every universal law for human rights before the eyes of all the world as it has been officially recorded by the Human Rights Watch, by the resolution numbers 822, 853, 874 and 884 of the UN Security Council, by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, by the European Court of Human Rights (22nd April 2010) and by the Organization for Security and Co-Operation Europe Minsk Group.

Allow me to respond to all of you genocide denialists with one response. It is shameful that 107 years after the Armenian Genocide, you still can’t bring yourself to admit the truth of what everyone in the world, except denialists like you, knows that the Armenian Genocide is a well-established historical fact. Your revered founding father, Kemal Ataturk, had no problem admitting the grave crimes of the Young Turk regime. So why lie about it? I understand that you are proud of your nationality, but have the wisdom to realize that there is nothing to be gained by continuing the Big Lie after a century. On the contrary, admitting the truth will set you free and the Turkish leader who has the integrity to do that would be honored with the Nobel Peace Prize.
As far as the cheap shots against me are concerned, accusing me of being a racist or Turk-hater, let me tell you categorically, that you are shameless and totally wrong. Name-calling will not bring any honor to you. Cuss words simply mean your shortage of evidence. Attack the message, if you dare, not the messenger. Just ask my many Turkish friends. I have nothing against a single Turkish individual. None of you was born in 1915. You have committed no crime against the Armenian nation. My demand is from the government of Turkey, not Turkish individuals, especially not the ones alive today. So stop the lies which make you accomplices to Genocide after the fact. Why besmirch yourselves with the shameful crimes of a predecessor regime. I suggest you follow Ataturk’s good advice. I doubt if any of you is foolish enough to call Ataturk a liar. Ataturk, Pres. Biden and thousands of historians and genocide scholars cannot be wrong just because you are too ashamed to admit a grave crime which you did not personally commit.

    To Harut Sassounian:

The claim in your comment that “My demand [for acceptance of the so-called Armenian Genocide lie] is from the government of Turkey, not Turkish individuals, especially not the ones alive today” is laughable considering that a lawfully elected government in a democracy represents the will of its people. Therefore, the Turkish government’s rejection of the unsubstantiated claim of a so-called genocide having been perpetrated against the Armenians by the Ottoman Turks represents the opinion of well over 90% of Turkish-Americans, Turks and Turkic peoples; an overwhelming majority that far surpasses any political or partisan support for the existing Turkish government.

As regards your complaint of name-calling against you, I for one see no need to waste my time with such endeavours. Your lies such as “everyone in the world … knows that the Armenian Genocide is a well-established historical fact” while knowing full well that the governments and parliaments of only 33, primarily Judeo-Christian Western countries out of the 195 nations in the world have done so, do a sufficiently fine job of besmirching your name and character without my having to do so.

Not to mention your distortion of facts by resorting to making partial and incomplete statements such as claiming in your article that “On August 29, 1985, the UN ‘Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities’ adopted a report on genocide by a vote of 15 in favor, 1 opposed, and 4 abstentions”, referring to the “Revised and Updated Report on the Question of the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide” prepared by British Special Rapporteur Benjamin Whitaker which in Paragraph 24 stated: “The Nazi aberration has unfortunately not been the only case of genocide in the twentieth century. Among other examples which can be cited as qualifying are the German massacre of Hereros in 1904, [and] the Ottoman massacre of Armenians in 1915-1916 …”. All the while knowing full well that the UN Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities did not accept the Whitaker Report, but decided merely to “receive” it. That the report was not submitted to the higher office, the Human Rights Commission and Benjamin Whittaker later admitted that he had been retained by the Armenian lobby. Not to mention the fact that since 1985, the UN Spokesperson has declared on three occasions that the UN does not accept the Armenian narrative as genocide since the crime of genocide needs to be determined by a judicial body – a competent tribunal as required by Article VI of the 1948 UN Genocide Convention which has never occurred in the case of the so-called Armenian genocide which dates back to 1915.

But I do agree with you on one point. Your statement that if any Turkish leader were to agree to the lie of a so-called Armenian genocide, that person probably “would be honored with the Nobel Peace Prize”. An example of that having already occurred in 2006 when Turkish author Orhan Pamuk who, after having publicly accepted the lie was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature by the 18 Christian members of the Swedish Academy.

    Enis Pinar,

You not only brazenly lie about the genocide of 1915, you continue your lie about the UN report of 1985. When someone like you lies in 2022, how do you expect anyone to believe you about a crime that took place 100 years.
You know absolutely nothing about the UN nor its report. I was at the UN from 1978 to 1985, took the floor a dozen times and exposed the Turkish delegates lies. The UN delegates heard my evidence and that of Turkey. They voted overwhelmingly, 15 to 1, and agreed with me. The all powerful Turkey lost in a lobbying battle against a single Armenian.
Let me now expose your other lies: “That the report was not submitted to the higher office, the Human Rights Commission.” You are wrong. First, the report was submitted to its higher body, the Commission on Human Rights, which in turn did submit it to its higher body, the ECOSOC. I was at the Commission and ECOSOC meetings. Were you there? I don’t think so. Since you know nothing about the UN, you would not know that all UN bodies forward the reports of their proceedings to their higher bodies as a routine. Before you open your big mouth and embarrass yourself, first learn the basic information about the UN. You are in no position to argue with someone like me.
Secondly, you just invented another lie that the “the UN Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities did not accept the Whitaker Report, but decided merely to “receive” it.” Once again, you have no idea what you are talking about it. If I were you, I would not want to embarrass myself by exposing my ignorance. You are completely wrong that the Sub-Commission “did not accept the Whitaker Report.” No such thing. The vote was 15 to 1 in favor of the report. The exact opposite of what you claimed.
Thirdly, you are lying that “Benjamin Whittaker later admitted that he had been retained by the Armenian lobby.” Do you have a shred of evidence to make such a grave accusation? If Whitaker were alive, he would have sued you for millions of dollars for libel. Too bad.
As far as the ignorant comment made by the UN spokesperson that you are quoting, I spoke to him. He apologized to me saying he did not know anything about the Whitaker report. He also said that he meant to say the UN General Assembly did not deal with the Armenian Genocide. But no one said that the General Assembly dealt with it. This is a straw man argument, based on a falsehood. I wonder who bribed him?
Finally, I see that you wisely avoided calling Ataturk a liar. Wise move. Otherwise you would be arrested immediately upon returning to Turkey. I dare you to respond to Ataturk!

    To Mr. Sassounian

History is written based on the official records not to be misperceived, otherwise when it is affected by the political benefits then it becomes a misleading phenomenon for the humanity. So lets see the UK archival records, in particular the Malta Tribunal documents are the most credible reference source about what happened in Eastern Anatolia during World War I. Officially held at the British Foreign Office National Archives, these records are free from biased and backed up with first-hand facts, data, and evidence. And it is needed to keep in mind that the UK was the adversary of Turkiye exactly in those years. The British Foreign Office documents of the Malta Tribunal (1919-1921), conducted by Britain’s highest legal prosecution authority, Her/His Majesty’s Attorney (Prosecutor) General for England, and Wales in London, was closed in judgement of with the “evidence in hand” none of the Turks prisoned in Malta could be prosecuted on the grounds of the Armenian massacre. “… The charges made against the Turks named in the Foreign Office list are of quasi-political character”, and “no statements have been taken from witnesses who can depose to the truth of the charges made against the prisoners… Without… the production of evidence of a character which alone could be admissible before an English Court of Justice… it seems improbable that the charges made against … the accused will be capable of legal proof in a Court of Law.”
With the verdict of the Malta Tribunal, it goes without question that the British Attorney General’s final ruling of July 29, 1921 corresponds to a “judgement of non-prosecution” which means, “there is no legal evidence to support the Armenian massacre claims, so there is no legal basis to file or bring a lawsuit.”
Malta Tribunal is the historical and judicial fact that about the Armenian allegations and this cannot be discredited by prejudiced political or legislative decisions. Armenian allegations are habitually led by religious, racial, and surely political prejudices. Particularly religious based prejudices have turned the Armenian allegations to some sort of a one-sided pro-Christian story, and manipulated the history from the reality.
On the other hand, as I specified above in my previous comment, in addition the massacres that armed Armenians perpatrated in the eastern region of Turkiye upon unarmed Turkish people (mostly villagers, women and children), in less than a hundred years, this time, Armenian army commited “Khojaly Genocide”. The pain of this real genocide is still so fresh as its official records are still so fresh in the UN, so it is not difficult to remember very fact that while invading the Azerbaijani land Nagorno Karabakh, Armenian Army committed the “Khojaly Genocide” just before entering the 21. century, in 1992. So that, in the USA, 16 state parliaments have accepted this cruel massacre as “genocide”, and it has been officially recorded by the Human Rights Watch, by the resolution numbers 822, 853, 874 and 884 of the UN Security Council, by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, by the European Court of Human Rights (22nd April 2010) and by the Organization for Security and Co-Operation Europe Minsk Group.
Which official records else and more are you still looking for, Mr. Sassounian? (although I’m sure that even if you with your own eyes witness these all genocides that Armenians perpetrated in less than one century, you will still do your best to spread misinformation and lies to disrupt the real history)!

    Serkan KORKMAZ,

You have a lot to learn about your own country’s bloody history before you make up fake stories about the Armenian Genocide during which most of my grandparents were brutally killed. Unlike you, I am not blindly repeating a myth that you learned from Turkish propagandists and denialists. I learned from the surviving members of my family from their first-hand tragic experiences of immense suffering and death.
You don’t know the first thing about the Malta Tribunal. I suggest, if you are interested in learning the truth, read some more about Malta from unbiased sources, not propaganda and lies intended to cover up the mass crimes.
Here is a brief history lesson for you. The reason the Turkish prisoners or criminals were let go of Malta has nothing to do with them being innocent. It was simply an exchange of prisoners between the British and the Turks. Turkey was holding a large number of British prisoners of war. They did not care about the Armenian Genocide. All they cared about is returning their captured prisoners home. That is why the British decided to free the few Turkish criminals they were holding in exchange for the British prisoners.
If you want to learn what the Turkish masterminds of the Armenian Genocide did, forget about British, French or German archives. All you have to do is read the Ottoman Archives which, despite being partially cleansed, still contain damning evidence of the Ottoman crimes against Armenians. Read them first and then talk to me. I have read them and have published some of them in the past. Lies are no substitute for facts and documents. I also suggest you take a good look at the indictments issued against the Ottoman murderers by the Turkish Military Tribunals in 1919. Finally, don’t forget the read Ataturk’s admission of the Young Turks’ massive crimes. I hope you are not saying that Ataturk is a liar. If you do, I suggest you do not go back to Turkey anytime soon, because you will be going straight to jail from the Istanbul airport.

I am completely unrelated to the person you are referring to.
Let’s play a game. Put your last name in google search and see how many people are there who have the same name.
Some of them may be related to you, others may not. Among those with your last name, there may be some upstanding people who share your name as well as some who may be thieves, rapists and murderers. Are you responsible for their crimes just because you share the same last name? I will let you figure out the answer.
By the way, the person you are referring to had nothing to do with ASALA. He was a member of the Justice Commandos of the Armenian Genocide.

Mr Sassounian and racist awful Armenians who think like him are racist and I am disgusted by their terrible actions. If there is a smidge of an evidence of any genocide committed by Turks against Armenians, why can’t the Armenian bring it to the attention of the United Nations and take Turkish Republic to court through legal procedure of International Court of Justice according to UN Geneva Convention that described and determined the definition of genocide? Kemal Ataturk never stated anything of the sort, which is just another despicable incendiary racist attack by the foul characters displayed like the racist Harut Sassounian. Unfortunately, the millions of dollars spent by the deep pockets of racist Armenians like Sassounian has completely pulled a veil before the eyes of those who are so happy to take this ill-begotten money. Tide will turn. Truth will be unearthed. Before that happens, I peacefully repeat my ask that Fanatic Racist Armenians leave this incendiary and racist defamatory attacks. Sassounian,

Mr. Yücel is perfectly justified in calling you “racist”. When someone engages in spreading slander and seeks to besmirch an entire ethnic group by falsely claiming its ancestors engaged in “genocide” that is exactly what they are.

As you are well aware, the Genocide Convention was only adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 9 December 1948 and entered into force on 12 January 1951. Therefore, your attempt at trying to retroactively (ex post facto) apply it to events occurring circa 1915 is a fraud. In fact, two separate clauses in the U.S. Constitution prohibits ex post facto laws: Article 1, § 9 which prohibits Congress from passing any laws which apply ex post facto “No bill of attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.”, and Article 1 § 10 which prohibits the states from passing any laws which apply ex post facto. Which is why at the 1945-1946 Nuremberg trials, the Nazi perpetrators of the Holocaust were only tried for War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity; because there was no crime of genocide in existence. Which also negates your pathetic attempts at trying to utilize the name of Atatürk as justification for your baseless claim of genocide by referring to “Ataturk’s admission of the Young Turks’ massive crimes”. As you well know, Atatürk passed away on 10 November 1938 – a decade before the introduction of a crime such as genocide.

And if you are thinking of falling back to the argument that the originator of the term “genocide”, Raphael Lemkin had the Armenian massacres in mind when he coined the term, I have news for you. According to research by Israeli scholar Tal Buenos who reviewed the papers of Raphael Lemkin at the Manuscripts and Archives Division of the New York Public Library, Lemkin listed a total of 62 cases of genocide in antiquity, the Middle Ages, and modernity. Of the 41 cases in modern times, number 39 states “Armenians”. Number nine on that list is “Genocide by the Greeks against the Turks”. The Lemkin papers also show that he had 100 pages on the case of “Belgian Congo” and 98 pages on the “Genocide against the American Indians”: https://www.dailysabah.com/opinion/2014/09/11/the-many-genocides-of-raphael-lemkin/amp

Moreover, again as you are well aware, Article VI of the UN Genocide Convention states:
“Persons charged with genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in article III shall be tried by a competent tribunal of the State in the territory of which the act was committed, or by such international penal tribunal as may have jurisdiction with respect to those Contracting Parties which shall have accepted its jurisdiction.”
None of those conditions have been met with regard to either the Ottoman Empire or the Republic of Türkiye. As regards the 1919-1920 Constantinople military courts-martials held under pressure from the British who were then occupying the city, they were show trials where the defendants were denied defense counsel and were totally devoid of the basic legal precepts of justice.

Retroactively levelling such an accusation only against the Muslim Turks while overlooking the fact that 523,000 Turks, Kurds and other Muslims who were killed throughout Anatolia in attacks by Armenian gangs starting from the late 1880’s to 1915 and beyond is also blatantly discriminatory and racist.

For example, in April, 1915 Armenian gangs and the Armenian residents of the city of Van inside the Ottoman Empire, upon hearing that their allies the Russian army was advancing towards the city, engaged in the ethnic cleansing of the Muslim Turkish and Kurdish residents of the city. In that one city alone, 60,000 to 80,000 civilian men, women and children were slaughtered by the Armenians. Doesn’t that constitute an act of “genocide” on the part of the Armenians if we are going to retroactively apply the term back to that time period?

Finally, your engaging in hyperbole such as stating “I don’t hold the children responsible for the sins of their fathers. I have a legitimate demand from the government of Turkey which continues to occupy Western Armenia and benefit from the loot obtained after killing the Armenian owners” is nothing but doublespeak. If your baseless demands were realized, it would be exactly those children who would be asked to pay for the alleged sins of their fathers. By trying to lull today’s generation of Turks into a false sense of amity, you forget that we are well aware of the end goals of racists such as yourself: http://www.armeniangenocidereparations.info/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/20150331-ArmenianGencoideReparations-CompleteBooklet-FINAL.pdf

P.S.: BTW, with regard to the accusation in your earlier reply to me that I’m “lying that ‘Benjamin Whittaker later admitted that he had been retained by the Armenian lobby.’ Do you have a shred of evidence to make such a grave accusation?”; yes I do. Your own words as contained in the article authored by you published on 14 June 2014 in the Azatutyun website under the title “Author of UN Report Confirming The Armenian Genocide Passes Away” wherein you wrote:
“I then asked Mr. Whitaker if he would be interested in becoming a Special Rapporteur to complete Ruhashyankiko’s aborted report. Mr. Whitaker agreed on condition that he would not do (sic) seek any votes for his appointment … Since our UN days, I had the distinct pleasure of being in the company of Mr. Whitaker on several occasions. In the late 1980’s, we were both invited to Argentina by the local Armenian National Committee to deliver a series of lectures on the UN and the Armenian Genocide. In 2009, Mr. Whitaker kindly attended my presentation at the British Parliament on the Armenian Genocide and made gracious remarks about our past collaboration at the UN.”: https://www.azatutyun.am/a/25432939.html
Doesn’t being retained to deliver a series of lectures on the UN and the so-called “Armenian Genocide” constitute working on behalf of the Armenian cause? You stand hoisted by your own petard.
