Bayragimiz, Connecticut Eyalet Binasi'nin kubbesinde dalgalaniyor.
On October 29, 1923, the Turkish Nation, lead by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, transformed the dynastic Ottoman Empire into the Republic of Turkey, and began the dynamic program of economic growth and social and cultural modernization.
Today, the Turkish Republic continues to rest upon the bedrock of four unshakable commitments -democracy, sovereignty of the people, national defense and security- through good neighborly relations and a strong liberal economy.
The ideas of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk are today the main source of unity and national aspirations which inspired a secular, pluralistic, and democratic state based on western ideals.
The United States stands as the foremost testament to the tradition of democracy and shines as a beacon of light for world freedom.
Turkish-American friendship is strong and has grown in respect of mutual ideals and partnerships which began years ago in Korea.
I am pleased to designate October 29, 1998 as TURKISH INDEPENDENCE DAY, CUMHURIYET BAYRAMI, in the State of Connecticut and urge all of our citizens to recognize this special relationship of friendship, opportunity and the spirit of freedom.
